Roots & Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Program

This program provides emotional Wellbeing for students in STEM fields in partnership and collaboration with the Roots & STEM Educational Outreach Foundation and Michigan State University Diversity Programs Office. Making science fun!

Addressing STEM Underrepresentation

The Roots & STEM Foundation is working to increase the numbers of underrepresented minorities (URMs) in STEM fields. Students will be able to choose from multiple summer programs offered to rising 9th to 12th grade students and entering college freshmen in the STEM discipline of their choice. Students will work with Masters and/or PhD level engineers on programs of their choice.

Providing Real-World Interaction

There is substantial evidence that depression and anxiety afflict almost 50% of students in STEM fields. KTC, Inc. will provide a unique 6-week summer program totally focused on the emotional and educational needs of the student participants. Each 90-minute seminar is interactive and hands-on: No boring lectures; No sleep inducing videos; No eyes rolling or glazing over. You will work on fun design projects and robotics classes, watch exciting demonstration videos, discuss relevant true life stories, absorb and develop communication skills designed to keep you engaged, and make lifelong friends.

Reducing Stress

You will also work with a licensed mental health therapist to openly (or privately) discuss your own life experiences and ultimately work on ways to reduce stress, worry and anxiety while developing healthy coping skills. We live in a transitional and highly competitive world. Let us help you do the emotional work that will allow you to reach your highest potential.
